Maria Hoefl-Riesch – Germany – Alpine Skiing

Maria Hoefl-Riesch is a 29 year old Alpine skier from Germany. Sochi will be her second Olympics. She participated in five Alpine events in Vancouver in 2010 winning two golds – one in Slalom, the other in Super Combined, and placing in the top five in the other three – the first women to ever top five all five Olympic disciplines. She’s already skied in three events in Sochi – Super Combined, where she won gold; Downhill where she took silver; and Giant Slalom, where she failed to place.

She will be skiing in the Slalom event today and is considered to be one of the favorites (note – the event has gone final but it will be televised on NBC tonight so I am not disclosing the results). Maria has announced that this will be her final Olympic race.

Maria appeared in the earlier Lange Girls Oglympic post.
