Federica is another Oglympic returnee, having appeared here in 2008 as a result of a love trial controversy that was the talk of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Rather than repeat it all here, let me just suggest your read this post from four years ago.
Federica 24 years old, a three time Olympian, defending Olympic champion in the 200 individual freestyle, and world record holder in both the 200 and 400 free. She’s entered in four events in the London Games – the 200 and 400 meter individual freestyles and the 4×100 and 4×200 relays. She failed to medal in the 400 on Sunday finishing a disappointing fifth as France’s Camille Muffat won the crown (in a small consolation, Muffat failed to break Pelligrini’s world record time). Federica somewhat redeemed herself on Monday as she led all qualifiers in the 200 freestyle. The finals will be held on Tuesday.
Pelligrini has been the center of several out of the pool controversies over the last couple of years. In addition to the love triangle leading up to the Beijing Olympics, she’s also raised eyebrows with several nude modeling sessions for European versions of Vanity Fair and Vogue. She’s and her boyfriend (another swimmer but not the one from four years ago) have been quite public with their relationship and talk freely about their sex life.
Here’s a photo spread that she did with said boyfriend, Filippo Magnini:
She also appeared in a couple of photo shoots without him.
And she’s been doing it for a while. Here she is much younger:
So be sure and tune in today to see if she can defend her Olympic title.
