Britta has been called the Anna Kournikova of fencing, Jochen Farber of the International Fencing Federation says “she has real talent and wins competitions.”

Britta’s Professional Accomplishments

World junior champion four years ago, she picked up a bronze medal at the 2002 world championships in Lisbon and has won one World Cup event in each of the last three years.

In the current World Cup rankings for the 2003-04 season, she is second behind Laura Flessel-Colovic of France.

Britta commenting on her sport: “Fencing is like a three-dimensional chess game. The challenge is about playing with your opponent, it requires rapidity, quick reaction and good concentration. This is an elegant sport emphasizing one’s figure.

Britta and the Olympics

Athens is Britta’s first Olympic experience. She had high hopes for medaling and her recent results certainly cast her as one of the favorites.

Unfortunately, much like Kournakova, her looks exceeded her results (at least as an fencer). Britta wound up tenth in the individual epee.

However, she did help Germany capture the silver medal in team epee.

Britta in Playboy

Britta joined fellow German athletes, volleyball player Kathy Radzuweit and field hockey player Fanny Rinne as cover models in this month’s German edition of Playboy.
