Now that we’ve reached the mid-point in the 2016 Games, it’s time to do a status check on the performance of our Oglympians.

Gold Medals

Monica Puig – Puerto Rico – Tennis

Monica won the gold medal in women’s tennis single becoming the first Puerto Rican athlete to win a gold medal in the Olympic Games.


Julia Lier

Julia Lier – Germany – Rowing

Julia and her teammates won the gold medal in Women’s quadruple sculls by passing the Netherlands with a late surge.

Aly captained the US women’s gymnastic team to a record breaking margin of victory in the team competition.

Jessica Ennis-Hill finished second in the heptathlon to Belgium’s Nafissatou Thiam

Aly won a silver medal in the All-Around competition finishing behind teammate Simone Biles.


Yulia Efimova

Yulia Efimova – Russia – Swimming

Yulia won two silver medals finishing behind the United States’ Lily King in the 100m breaststroke and Japan’s Rie Kaneto in the 200m breaststroke.


Martina Hingis

Martina won a silver medal in doubles tennis losing in the gold medal match to Ektarina Makarova and Elena Vesnina of Russia.

Colleen was one of three US steeplechasers to qualify for the finals which will be held Monday morning at 10:15am

Petrissa and the rest of the German women’s Table Tennis team have advanced to the gold medal match which will be held Tuesday evening August 18th.

Isabelle competes in the Marathon swim which will take place Monday morning Aug 15th at 8:00 am.

Penny and her Australian teammates on the Opals have advanced past pool play and will meet Serbia on Tuesday Aug 16th in the women’s basketball quarterfinals

Aly will defend her 2012 London floor exercise gold on Tuesday Aug 16th.

Zsuzsanna Jakabos – Hungary – Swimming

Zsusanna came in 10th in the finals of the 200m individual medley swimming finals. She also swam a leg on the German 4×200 freestyle relay but Germany failed to advance past qualifying.

Anouk Vergé-Dépré – Switzerland – Beach Volleyball

Anouk and her beach volleyball partner were eliminated by Germany in the round of 16.

Jade Barbosa – Brazil – Gymnastics

Jade competed in both the team finals finishing 5th and the individual all around finals where an injury prevented her from finishing,


Eugenie Bouchard

Eugenie was eliminated in the first round of singles competition and the second round of double.

Federica competed in five events in Rio. Her best finish was fourth in the 200m freestyle.


In Summary

Oglympians have won 3 Gold Medals and 5 Silver Medals. If we were a country, the eight medals in total would place us 13th overall, behind the Netherlands but ahead of Spain. In gold medal count alone, the three medals would tie us with Spain for 13th place.
